Thank You, Lord, for giving us this rock of a man in Sen. Jesse Helms, "for such a time as this." Phyllis Schlafly points out that from his urging of a 1976 strongly worded Republican Platform in foreign policy, pro-life, opposition to federal government intrusion--to his fight in the Clinton years against "busybody international bureaucrats who want to curtail our sovereignty"...there has been no other national leader like him. God bless his family and our country he fought so valiantly to keep free.

Senator Helms was truly the American statesman I most admire. It was my honor to have volunteered for his last campaign in 1996 while I was in college. Even to have played a small role in the reelection of someone who played such a significant part in our State & Nation's history is something I will always treasure. In the years since, he took time to see me on several occasions - always displaying the same courtesy and genteel nature that he was known for throughout his career. He truly fought the Good Fight.

To the family: May you take comfort knowing that he is in a new home....prepared for him as promised. Jesse Helms will live in the hearts, minds and thoughts of all who hold America dear. His service helped to keep this nation great. We love him, and we will miss him, as you do.

He was a man with good principles. He was rare in the political world in that he knew what he believed and why he believed it and focused on keeping his course close to his compass rather than drifting with prevailing winds of thought. I salute this dedicated Christian gentleman and conservative icon, Senator Jesse Helms.

My oldest daughter and I have fond memories the Jesse. Deborah was a senior at Providence Day in Charlotte and went to Washington DC to meet her first real Senator. Jesse gave us the VIP tour. She was so excited and Jesse made a big fuss over her. She loved the attention and down through the years loved this humble man. She now is 43 years old has developed into a great conservative living in Texas thanks to this great man. Thank you Jesse! With fond memories of a great American, Dr. Edward Bonomo

I will never forget being sent as a very young man to Senator Helm's home in Washington on an errand. This would have been in the late 1970's. I was terrified to approach the door of a U.S. Senator -- and one of Senator Helms' stature at that! The home, in Arlington, VA, was much more humble than I thought it would be. I was astounded when Senator Helms himself answered the door. No servants or aids for him! As I stood in the front hallway while the Senator signed a document, I could hear his wife Dot preparing supper as any other American housewife might do. I realized that this was a humble man. He was not "larger than life"but perfectly proportioned to the role he played reminding all of us that government is our servant and not our master.

I was so saddend to hear that Sen. Helms had gone home to be with his Lord. How fitting that such a great patriot left his earhtly duties on July 4th. My sincere condolences to the family. I will always remember what a great advocate of freedom Sen. Helms was and his valuable help when we were fighting for refugee women who fled the one Child Policy of China. He never was too busy to listen and helped us in many ways. He understood that freedonm is never free. He also was one of the most personable men I have ever met - a true statesman not a politician. I am so sorry for your loss and for the loss to our nation of this great patriot. Dr. Patricia McEwen, Director, Life Coalition International.

Jesse Helms was a great statesman, principled conservative and true Southern gentleman. For years, his speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference would energize me for the next year. My wife and I thought so much of Jesse Helms that we named one of our children after him fifteen years ago. In fact, in my office is displayed a photograph taken about ten years ago with the Jesse and our Jesse together in his Senate office. God bless Jesse Helms and deepest condolences to his family.

We appreciate all the personal kindness that Senator Helms bestowed upon us over the years. Whether it was taking precious time to spend with us as college students or providing a kind word for us as young adults, Senator Helms was always unfailingly gracious. The Stewart and Shufelt families send their deepest condolences to Mrs. Helms and the entire Helms family during this difficult time.
