About Copying Archives Material
Photocopying of archival material may either self-service or staff-produced, at the discretion of the Archivist. Manuscripts are never self-service copied. The number of copies you may receive is limited. Staff limitations along with the damage caused by photocopying to the holding prevent us from providing unlimited coping.
Please consider the following before requesting copies:
- All photocopying damages documents. The light and heat produced during photocopying damage paper and contribute to fading. Handling material is damaging, no matter how careful you are.
- We will allow photocopying as long as physical condition, copyright law, and the Archives agreement with the donor allow.
- Photographs are never photocopied because of the damage done by the process. If you need a copy of a photograph, please consult with the Archivist.
- Complete volumes and entire manuscript collections may not be photocopied.
