Program: The Singing Revolution
Registration Deadline: 10/21/2008
Program Date(s): 10/21/2008
Location: Ballantyne Village Theatre
Cost: $0.00
As part of the Helms Forum series, the Jesse Helms Center will premiere the first Charlotte area screening of the award winning documentary "The Singing Revolution" on October 21, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Ballantyne Village Theatre. Tickets for the screening are free, but must be reserved in advance. A limited number of seats are available. For questions and tickets reservations by phone, please call (704) 233-1776, ext. 8.

Through historic footage and one-of-a-kind interviews, The Singing Revolution tells the powerful story of Estonia’s peaceful path to freedom. In 1991, hundreds of thousands of Estonians gathered to sing forbidden patriot songs, defying decades of Soviet occupation. Their compelling and forceful songs led to their independence, and their charge helped herald the collapse of the Soviet Union. The late Nobel Laureate and economist Milton Friedman called the movie a wonderful film and said that it will “unquestionably have the effect of strengthening the belief in freedom on the part of anybody who watches it.” "The Singing Revolution" has been screened across the country and received several awards including the “Most Inspirational Film” in the 2008 Boulder International Film Festival and “Best Documentary” in the 2007 Savannah Film Festival.

Location: Powers Recital Hall, Dunn Center on the Campus of NC Wesleyan College, Rocky Mount, NC

Please join us for the Rocky Mount screening of "The Call of the Entrepreneur."

“The Call of the Entrepreneur” is an hour long documentary that focuses on the lives of three entrepreneurs – a dairy farmer, a merchant banker, and a refugee from communist China. The film examines the drive behind what these people do: Why are they driven to create wealth? Why do they produce? Who does it benefit?

Why do their stories matter? Because how we view entrepreneurs - as greedy or altruistic, as virtuous or vicious - shapes the destinies of individuals and nations.

The documentary captures the very essence of the entrepreneur and how by their ingenuity and vision, they create wealth for the world.

A panel discussion will immediately follow the screening. Panel members include John Dodd, president of the Jesse Helms Center, John Hood, president of the John Locke Foundation, and G.D. Gearino, author and former News & Observer columnist and business editor.
